10 Steps To A Better Environment

The "5R" Initiative is a standard-based waste reduction and recycling program for Summit County schools that incorporates the following actions within a school's culture through hands-on learning:

  • Reduce supplies used within school and administrative buildings
  • Reuse materials before recycling or discarding
  • Recycle all materials that have available markets
  • Rethink environmental issues and concepts and incorporate in classroom lessons

1.  Show an interest

2.  Do a waste audit to know YOUR school's waste stream

3.  Assemble a task force

4.  Develop a plan of action

5.  Institute a collection method

6.  Sign the "5R" Initative pledge

7.  Implement an incentive plan

8.  Conduct a Recycling Kick-off

9.  REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, RETHINK, AND RESPECT

10. Measure results
