The "5R" Initiative is a standard-based waste reduction and recycling program for Summit County schools that incorporates the following actions within a school's culture through hands-on learning:

Reduce supplies used within school and administrative buildings

Reuse materials before recycling or discarding

Recycle all materials that have available markets

Rethink environmental issues and concepts and incorporate in classroom lessons

Respect natural resources and the environment
